On New Zealand Politics
Something I have noticed with age is an increasing disenchantment with the idea that the politics of power and the needs of society have much in common.
We have a three year voting cycle in this small green country of ours, which is not enough time to complete a PHD let alone enough time to see through a national grade infrastructure project. Seemingly due to this, our new governments have made a habit of undoing previous initiatives that don't align with their interests or budget.
Nevermind that those projects may already have cost millions - or billions - and nevermind that some of these projects are only becoming more urgent with time.
I don't doubt that the grass is always greener, and that NZ is one of the few places where our biggest problems are more annoyances than tragedies.
But it would be nice to be better.
